What it means
The test tube pouring liquid onto a hand and surface indicates corrosive chemicals such as strong acids and alkalis. Contact can cause irreversible tissue damage; fumes may harm eyes and airways.
Where you will see it
Drain cleaners, industrial chemicals, battery acid, and laboratory reagents.
What you should do
Wear chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection. Add acid to water (never water to acid) when diluting, and neutralise spills following product guidance.
Common mistakes
- Mixing drain cleaners with other products, which can release toxic gas.
- Disposing of corrosive liquids down sinks without checking local regulations.
