Laundry Symbols
Do Not Tumble Dry
Do Not Tumble Dry
What it means
The square with a crossed-out circle means heat and mechanical action from a tumble dryer could shrink, stretch, or damage the fabric. Many wool, silk, and delicate synthetic items carry this symbol.
Where you will see it
Care labels inside clothing, especially on knitwear, delicates, and structured garments.
What you should do
Lay the item flat on a clean towel or hang it on a line or drying rack away from direct heat and sunlight.
Common mistakes
- Using a low-heat tumble dry setting anyway, which can still cause shrinkage.
- Hanging heavy wet knits, which may stretch out of shape.
